Travis Scott's Astroworld

Astroworld interview: Travis Scott 'didn't hear' screams - Los Angeles Times

Concerts and music festivals have been around for many years. They have always been a way to experience music in a more personal and real way compared to streaming music on digital devices. Furthermore, they provide a way for fans of an artist or genre to connect with each other through the music. While the intention of music concerts and festivals is for attendees to have fun and see many performers on the same stage, they have recently become the center of tragedies.

This has been seen at events such as Ariana Grande's Manchester concert in 2017 where a bombing killed 22 people and injured many more, and was most recently seen at Travis Scott's Astroworld.

Travis Scott is known for encouraging his fans to push the limits, and his attitude towards Astroworld was no different. Prior to the concert, his now-deleted tweets encouraged people to sneak into the event, and during, he encouraged attendees to "rage" and disobey security present at the event. Because of his tweets encouraging fans to sneak in and the lack of proper amounts of security, many people were able to sneak into the event, leading to overcrowding, which is what ultimately led to the mass casualties.

When Travis Scott came on stage, many people attempted to rush towards the stage, resulting in the trampling of many people. Due to the masses attempting to get towards the stage, many people began passing out and falling to the ground only to be trampled by fellow concertgoers. The lack of adequate numbers of medical staff on-site only made things worse as more people than they could attend to started coming in need of assistance for multiple reasons. Ultimately, 10 people passed and many more were injured both physically and mentally.

As soon as the concert was over, social media was flooded with hundreds of users sharing their experiences at Astroworld. TikTok was especially full of videos explaining the situation through narration and through videos of the concert itself. After watching and seeing these posts, people were furious at Travis Scott.

People may ask, why are people upset with Travis? He didn't personally injure the people. However, he encouraged the behaviors that ultimately led to the deaths and injuries at the festival. Furthermore, he was warned about the dangers prior to the concert and was even made aware during the concert. Despite the warnings, he did nothing to try to minimize the hazards prior to and during the event. While he did notice that some people were fainting, he ultimately decided to continue with his concert instead of stopping to assess the situation and decide the best way to proceed from there.

Because of the role he played in the overcrowding, the behavior of the crowd, and the continuation of the concert despite the people being injured, he must formally apologize to those affected by the events that took place at Astroworld and do his part in ensuring that he holds himself accountable.

  1. The topic is really good, just make sure that you could include some academic source in your paper, since this is quite recent
